This tour combines the best of Kilauea's summit and historical eruptions within Hawai`i Volcanoes National Park, its big craters, native rainforest, and lava tube with the best of the scenic coastline between the lava-buried villages of Kalapana and Kapoho, site of the recently active lava flows. The itinerary remains flexible to include a chance to see the active lava flows if at all possible (the eruption can change from day to day, requiring a shorter or longer hike). In the event there is no lava present and accessible, we would substitute and customize itinerary of preference for the group, either more time in the National Park or Kalapana & Kapoho areas. Physical requirements:The level of physical activity can range from easy (only short walks) to demanding (longer hikes), depending entirely on your preferences.
Arrival info:The tour starts and ends on Big Island, ideally in Hilo or Volcano. Pick-up and transfers to and from Kona can be arranged, but the guided transfer time counts towards the time of the tour.
