HIKE as close as safely possible, when it's possible! Lava flows are not accessible every day due to the quickly-changing eruption, but when they are, we can get you there & back for the best chance to see red, active lava close-up & safely!

If there's no lava, we hike a 10mi/16km round-trip offering the closest legal sunset view of the active Pu‘u ‘O‘o vent on an epic 8-hr tour. (Too far? Choose the National Park or Kalapana & Kapoho instead, with LAVA PRIORITY option when possible to include the lava hike within your specified limits, or see lava from a distance if it's too far.)

Current status: Lava flows ARE ACCESSIBLE as of March 2012 via a 7mi/12km (4-5 hr + viewing time) round-trip hike over uneven terrain. ...more info
